The cemetery

A cornerstone from
the Mount of Olives.

According to Jewish tradition, burial grounds are sacred sites that must remain undisturbed in perpetuity — establishing a cemetery is among the first priorities of a Jewish community. Jerusalem Gardens, at Venice Memorial Gardens (1950 Center Rd), was consecrated in September 2018 for the benefit of all the Jewish residents of our area.

Its special hallmark: a cornerstone brought from Har HaZeitim — the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem — symbolizing an eternal bond with our homeland and our tradition. To provide proper Jewish burial for every member of the community, Chabad of Venice established the Venice Chevrah Kadisha (Holy Society).

    The Venice Chevrah Kadisha coordinates all needs and local partners — taharah and shmirah per halacha, a simple and dignified burial in the consecrated section, and guidance for kohanim, markers, engraving, and unveiling.

    Support for shivah, shloshim, and yahrzeit observance — with Kaddish services, annual yahrzeit reminders, and the memorial plaque wall at the Chabad House keeping their memory present.

Is Jerusalem Gardens a Jewish section?
Yes — consecrated and maintained to Jewish standards. A special consecration ceremony took place upon its inauguration in September 2018, and the section was expanded in March 2021 due to popular demand. Spaces are limited.
How do we schedule a burial or purchase a plot?
Book a tour or contact us; we'll guide you through the next steps with compassion and clarity — before need, at the time of need, and afterwards.
Can you help with taharah, shmirah, and the funeral home?
Yes — the Venice Chevrah Kadisha (Holy Society) coordinates all needs and local partners, per halacha.
Do you offer Kaddish or Yahrzeit reminders?
Yes — Kaddish services, the memorial plaque wall at the Chabad House, and a yahrzeit reminder card mailed to you every year. They all live together on our Remember a Loved One page.
What if a spouse is not Jewish?
Jerusalem Gardens is a consecrated Jewish cemetery, dedicated to those of the Jewish faith. We know every family situation is unique, and we handle each case with sensitivity — please reach out to us privately to discuss options.
Do you have to be a member of Chabad to purchase a plot?
No — plots are available to all Jewish families. This cemetery is for all Jews of our community, affiliated and non-affiliated alike.
